Pianist
The first thing i did, musically, was play the piano. My relationship with the instrument and its native reportoire is rather complicated, but the fact is that i have been at it since 1988. While i keep finding interesting and rewarding things to play, i am very choosy; practicing is real work, and i only want to do that for something i love. However, with that limit comes greater focus.
As a soloist, i focus mainly on Baroque and Classical period music: Buxtehude, Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, and so forth. I have occasional favorites among the works of Chopin (for instance), however -- and my favorite composer is Shostakovich.
The broader solo piano repertoire lost its intrigue for me after i started composing, but the seeds for that were planted when i discovered chamber music.
As a chamber musician, i am most likely to be working on Baroque, Classical, or 20th-21st century music. The same applies for vocal music, on the occasions i find myself working with a singer.
