Welcome, citizens, to mikkonoma.com, the online home of, well, myself - Mikko A. Taylor.

I am a pianist-composer presently based in the New York City area. Primarily a composer, I have a sizable body of work in that regard. My instrumental choices and my musical language are usually quite traditional, but I am glad to write something a bit less so.

Please note that this site is primarily devoted to my work as a composer. However, I have a wide variety of interests and abilities, owing to an inquiring mind and a conservatoire education.

For instance, I have extensive experience as a pianist, having played since 1989 and done abundant work as soloist, chamber musician, accompanist, and in orchestras.

My experience has included doing arrangements and orchestrations; giving lectures on a variety of subjects; writing program notes for concerts. My strong background in theory, analysis, and other technical or research-oriented matters makes me well suited for those activities -- or others. I have done one-time lectures; directed a small operatic production; and written and performed a one-man play on Dmitri Shostakovich. And, back in high school, I kept myself busy in various vocal ensembles.

So, although primarily a composer, there is quite a bit else I can do. The primary thrust of this site is for my compositions, but I am glad to answer any inquiries you may have.
